The firm begins its activity specializing in planning at urban level at territorial scale and at actuation scale. The firm contributes to drafting the city plan of the City of Turin, with consultancies and specialist studies. In Turin, during the successive phase of actuation of the town plan, follows important plans and urban projects which have redrawn the relationship between established neighborhoods and ex-industrial transformation areas. Among the most important and strategic fields we recall the Materferro (Spina 1) issue, the former Iveco area (Spina 4), the historic Lancia plant in Borgo San Paolo, the Comau area in Corso Traiano, and the urban transformation of the historical steel industries in Barriera di Milano (Spina 3). The firm also managed some studies on the urban development possibilities of the railway areas within the urban environment, underlying interventions of a strategic territorial transformation of the City of Turin with the realization of the railway link.
SMAPROGETTI developed through the years the plan of the transformation of the urban territory at medium and large scale, prefiguring the relationship between built-up areas and new public areas, with the objective of giving back to the City lost spaces and unused due to the deindustrialization of the metropolitan areas.
With reference to the transformation areas of the City of Turin, the Studio was part of the design group of the new facility of the University of Turin, Campus Luigi Einaudi.
Since the years 2000s, the firm has specialized in the design of buildings for residential, accommodation and commercial destinations, other than that of touristic areas at territorial level as well as touristic complexes and theme parks.
During the 20th Winter Olympic Games, hosted in Turin, the Studio took part in some of the most significant projects, developing both the urban aspects and those inherent the realization of Olympics-related works. Following the Olympics experience, the firm dedicated itself to the elaboration of plans, on territorial and local scales, in the field of touristic and entertainment activities, with particular care for the mountain areas development.
From 2005 the firm followed, as a consultant of Banca Intesa-Sanpaolo, all the phases of tendering, designing and realization of the new Business Center conceived by Architect Renzo Piano in Turin.
In 2011 the firm concluded one of the first Social Hosing interventions ever realized in Italy, and later gave its contribution to the realization of new interventions such as student residences and accommodation structures of innovative character.
Recently, SMAPROGETTI specialized in the functional recovery of existing buildings, as well as their energetic requalification.
